Project denomination:
Resocialization and de-institutionalization of children in difficulties including mentally or physical disabled children. Building of a rehabilitation and education center.
Project aim:
The aim of this project is to create a new integrative approach to address the multiple problems of children and families in risk situations from Moldova, i.e. institutionalization, neglect, abuse, human trafficking and the lack of education.
The overall objective is the improvement of the life quality of children in Moldova through a comprehensive approach to de-institutionalization and re-socialization of children in difficulty.
Planned activities:
The family type institution “Small Group Homes” is a successful pilot project that operates since 2000 and has effectively adopted a model of alternative childcare in a family centered approach.
The project now aims to extend the social specialized services offered by “Small Group Homes” through creation of a “Rehabilitation and Education Center” with provision of following specialized services:
- professional orientation
- psycho-social treatment and logo-therapy
- physio- and kineto-therapy
- computer classes for beginners
- professional specialized library
Specific objectives:
§ extension of specialized services for children and families in risk situations provided by the family type institution “ Small Group Homes”
§ de-institutionalization and re-integration of children in difficulties in their biological family or a foster family
§ ongoing preparation of multidisciplinary specialists and formation of specialists of institutes for social protection, state medical institutes and students from universities specialized in childcare
§ development of new qualitative standards in childcare which incorporate the experience made at “Small Group Homes” and other alternative child protection services
§ sensibilisation of public opinion concerning the integration of children with difficulties into Moldovan society
