REMITTANCES DEVELOPING MOLDOVAN COMMUNITIES
Hilfswek Austria in Moldova in partnership with CONTACT Centre for National Assistance and Information of NGOs from Moldova is implementing, with financial support of European Union, the Project “Remittances Developing Moldovan Communities” Sustainable Use of Remittances by Generating Local Income in the Republic of Moldova.
Project aim is to contribute to link migration and development in the Republic of Moldova and make use of positive effects of migration to develop Moldovan rural communities and mitigate migration.
The specific objective of the project is to increase positive impact of remittances to Moldova through improved capacity of remittances recipients & local communities in 4 target regions of Central Moldova to generate income activities, develop businesses and invest in their rural communities.
The target group is the families of 900 young remittance recipients; population of 100 rural communities in 4 regions in Central Moldova and interested population all over the Republic of Moldova (through the handbook and website); at least 1.000 private businesses also benefiting of best business models in the long term.
Estimated results of the project are the following:
1. Particular needs and constraints in using remittances and developing businesses are identified; 2. Business models for young remittances recipients and potential migrants are developed and tested;
3. Information exchange between local public authorities, institutions as well as private businesses is facilitated;
4. Knowledge and skills of young potential migrants on remittances management and business creation is increased.
The main activities of the projects are: Conduct a regional survey on youths constraints and the amount of remittances received and spent (including categories of potential business intervention); Develop and replicate at least 10 of best practice business models for young remittance recipients, their families, local authorities and private businesses; Launch a Small Grant Program and select 5 pilot SMEs based on a competition; Set up a Resource Centre in Orhei region to provide business consultations and up-to-date information on investment and to offer job and training opportunities for remittance recipients and potential migrants; Conduct a series of roundtables in 4 target regions of Moldova to disseminate best practice business models to local authorities, institutions and private businesses for entrepreneurship promotion and job creation; Organize at least 10 awareness workshops and information campaigns in 4 target regions in supporting SMEs development; Train at least 400 of young remittance beneficiaries from 4 target regions of Moldova on business creation and remittance management, investments and income generating activities; Publish and disseminate a handbook containing training materials on business cycle management as well as elaborated best practice business models.
Project will be implemented during the period 01.04. 2011 - 30.06.2013 (27 months) in the central part of Moldova, districts: Telenesti, Soldanesti, Orhei and Rezina.
